Cooking is an art and you do not need a qualification to cook. Everybody can learn to cook and it is better when you learn to cook in your early stages. As a parent you can teach your kids some basic steps in cooking, here is a list of some of them:
Safety measures are the first thing to take note when teaching kids how to cook. Make sure they wash their hands with warm water and they must wash all the vegetables that is going to be used. They must wear apron to protect them from food stains. Do not make them lick their hands or put their hands in their mouth. If they are between the ages of 4 - 9 do not let them turn on the gas stove or do not let them use the knife. They can learn to turn on the gas stove and cut vegetables when they are 10 and above.
Liquid foods like porridge, oats, etc are easy to prepare. You can teach kids aged 5 years and above how to prepare these foods.
You can teach your kids between the ages of 5 - 9 basic boiling of foods such as noodles, spaghetti etc. These type of foods does not take long time to cook and it is easier to cook unlike foods such as rice which requires a few more minutes plus it is confusing because when care is not taking some part will be cooked whilst some part won't. So I suggest boiling foods such as rice, yam for kids aged between 10 and above.
Kids must be taught basic table manners so that they can eat at public places such as restaurants. Some basic table manners kids must know include:
